8 Tips on Talking to Your Daughter about Puberty

 The transition to adulthood

It can be stressful talking to your daughter(s) about puberty, but the truth is, it doesn’t have to be. Everyone goes through puberty. It’s a healthy and exciting part about growing up and should be treated as such. Talking to your daughter about puberty can stop her being frightened about what is happening to her body. If you want your girl to transition to adulthood smoothly, unafraid open communication is imperative.

Talk about It All the Time

Don’t wait for a certain age to have the talk with your daughter. Waiting until she gets her period is going to make for a scary experience for her. Instead, start from the moment she starts talking and asking questions, by bringing up the topic or pointing out things that are happening from a young age.

Keep Some Things Private

For some things, it’s okay to explain that it must be private between you and her or her doctor. Explain how some people get nervous about the topic, so keeping some things private can make it easier.

Answer Questions When Asked Directly

When your child asks a question, always to answer it directly and honestly. You can use the right words that she’ll understand at her age, but it’s best to be direct and use scientific words rather than pet names or silly words.

Create an Open-Door Policy

Let your daughter know that she can come to you any time with any questions. It also helps to suggest other adults that you know and trusts, such as your doctor, an aunt, or their opposite-sex parent, because it’s always good to have more support than less.

Try a Book to Guide You Both

If you are nervous and struggling (and even if you aren’t), it can help to find a good scientific book that is designed for a teenage girl’s knowledge. This will help you both because it’ll go over it all. Let her read it and then ask questions whenever she wants.

Talk without Judgement

When you talk about issues, it’s imperative that you avoid casting judgment on things. For example, what if you said something derogatory about homosexuality and your child is homosexual or transsexual? What if something has happened to them that they didn’t have words for until you talked to them? Will they ever tell you now?

Be Honest

It’s good to be open and honest about how you think of things and why. However, it’s also okay to acknowledge that your teenage daughter may have different ideas about her own life. You can make household rules, but let her be honest too by withholding judgment even if you state you disagree.

Help Her Prepare

Make a period kit together; redecorate her room. Do everything you can to help her prepare for this exciting time in a positive and upbeat way. She’ll thank you for it someday.

Talking about puberty will get more comfortable if you start as soon as your daughter asks questions. You’ll have many opportunities, such as during TV shows, movies, and life events, to bring these issues into normal daily
conversation. That way, you take out the scary parts by making it normal to talk about puberty in everyday life.

Food and Exercise Do’s and Don’ts to Help with PMT

Junkfood Will Never Help Your Health

If you experience pre-menstrual tension, also known as PMT or PMS, know that you are not alone. Usually, the symptoms begin a week or two before you start bleeding and can include cramping, irritability, depression, and a whole host of other negative symptoms. If you are one of the one in three who experience PMT, there are ways to take care of yourself and make it easier to get through your period.

* Reduce Sodium Intake – Most of the pain associated with your period really has to do with the body’s inflammatory response. If you reduce your sodium intake, you will also reduce your pain.

* Eat High Water Content Food – Eating food that has a lot of water will also help you reduce inflammation. Eating things like melons and salads, and drinking a lot of water will do more for you than you realize. You may even reduce your food cravings.

* Eat Dark Chocolate – Find organic dark chocolate with low to no added sugar. Don’t go nuts but do enjoy a small piece of dark chocolate occasionally to help with your mood and cravings.

* Eat Bananas – Bananas have a lot of magnesium and potassium, which can act as a muscle relaxer and help cut down your pain. Try a banana with melted dark chocolate drizzled over it.

* Avoid Caffeine – It’s hard to do this when you are tired, but caffeine can make you feel even more tension and anxiety. Instead, try a brisk walk to bring some energy into your mind. Plus, caffeine will dehydrate you.

* Take OTC Remedies – To help with your back cramps, headache, or tender breasts, using acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen can help. Always check with your doctor before taking any new medication for the first time.

* Do Slow Exercises – Careful exercises like swimming, yoga, Pilates, and so forth can help you learn to deal with your cramps and pain and lift your mood. You want to do exercises that help you with your breathing to relax and center you.

* Avoid Alcohol – One of the worst things you can do if you have PMT is to drink alcoholic beverages to try to deal with your feelings. You may end up getting drunk faster due to having lower blood volume, and it might even make the flow stronger due to its blood-thinning effect.

* Avoid Spicy Food – If you have severe cramps and a heavy flow, it’s important to really differentiate between natural and organic spices found in fresh chili, compared to junk food. You don't have to give it all up if it’s natural and organic.

It’s important to eat regular meals, drink plenty of water, and keep moving when you are experiencing PMT. However, it’s also perfectly fine to baby yourself right now and give yourself a little extra love when you’re feeling out of sorts.

Useful Impressive Ideas for Eco-Friendly Gifts for 2020

Impressive Ideas for Eco-Friendly Gifts

Let’s be honest; unless you are good at picking gifts for people, most gifts just end up in the attic, the garage, or stuffed away in a drawer and not really enjoyed. When you seek to choose only eco-friendly gifts, however, you add something to the experience of choosing the gift that will make that gift special.

* Give Experiences Instead of Things – While some experiences aren’t exactly eco-friendly, anytime you can do things instead of adding more stuff to a collection, you are being more eco-friendly. Plus, going ziplining, or even going on a trip to do good works overseas or in a poor area of a country, can be a great gift for the right person.

* Donate in Their Name – One way to give an eco-friendly gift is to find out something they value and donate to that cause in their name. Most organizations allow for gifting donations; if it’s not apparent on the website, ask them directly.

* Needed Items Made in Sustainable Ways – The truth is, you can give anything you want as a gift - just look up the item you want and try to find an eco-version of it. Sometimes that means buying the item used so that it’s not adding to manufacturing pollution. A used air fryer works the same as a new one, but only the used one is eco-friendly.

* Monthly Ugly Produce Delivery –
There are probably several of these; some will be in your area and some won’t. However, you can find ugly and misfit produce for delivery via Misfits Market and Imperfect Produce. You might also ask locally if you can have a pick-up for produce that might be thrown out. In Arizona, they have Borderlands Produce Rescue which offers weekly pick-up of 70 pounds of produce for only 12 bucks.

* Plant a Tree in Their Name – This is a beautiful gift to give almost anyone. It’s often done as a way to memorialize a person, but you can do it for any reason, including weddings, birthdays, births and more.

* Anything Needed That’s Reusable – Everyone needs reusable kitchen rags, reusable straws, cups, and eco-friendly storage containers. The real trick is replacing single-use items with reusable items to help save the environment. Almost anyone would love a cute reusable straw to take with them everywhere.

* Eco-Friendly Bedding and Towels –
Bedding and towels are popular wedding gifts and something most people need. Try sheets made from bamboo and towels made from organic cotton grown with sustainable practices. New materials are coming on the market every day. If you don’t find used, consider buying one of the newer sustainable materials for this gift.

* Ocean Plastic Bracelets – 4Ocean.com offers you a way to help pay for the clean-up of the plastic in the ocean. You simply buy bracelets that were made from ocean plastic; it pays for the continued clean-up and your bracelet is from the plastic they found in the ocean.

* Carbon Offsets – Via Cool Effect, you can buy carbon offsets, which will help eliminate your carbon footprint based on your travel. You can buy them as gifts for someone else based on what you think will help offset their footprint.

Buying an eco-friendly gift is going to make the entire experience a lot more fun for you and the person you’re giving to. People like getting well-thought-out gifts that are helpful, useful, and meaningful. Giving an eco-friendly gift is going to feel great to you and them.

How to Stand Up for Yourself in a Relationship

Do you don't know who you are

and what you want?

If you are a person who hates confrontation, it’s important for you to read this. Watch any "Lifetime" movie or soap opera and you’ll notice that the reason there is so much drama is that no one knows how to communicate well, and instead of standing up for themselves and being direct, they’re acting passive-aggressively.

stand up in relationships, how to stand up for yourself, stand up for yourself, how to stand up for yourself in a relationship, how to speak up for yourself, standing up for yourself, stand up for yourself motivation, relationships, how to stand up for yourself to a friend, standing up for yourself in a relationship, how to be more assertive, how to stand up for yourself at work

* Be Transparent and Authentic – The very first thing to work on is your authenticity. Do you don't know who you are and what you want? If you don’t, those are the things you have to work on so that you can have a great relationship. When you are who you are, it’s a lot easier for people to feel safe with you too.

* No One Controls Your Feelings but You – People cannot make you feel a certain way. Sometimes feelings aren’t even real. They are simply responses to what is happening, and sometimes the feelings can be overwhelming or exaggerated due to ignoring them for so long. However, no matter what, you are the one in control of yourself. No one else.

* Start Small – When you want to start working on standing up for yourself more, it’s important to acknowledge that you haven’t done it until now and going full speed ahead might scare people. Instead, start small by speaking up right away when you are mistreated or misunderstood. Even if you don’t do it perfectly, those small victories will pay off with more confidence.

* Avoid Reacting – If someone is attacking you or you feel attacked, don’t react right away. You never have to react in the heat of anything to still stand up for yourself. You can back off, get your emotions under control, create a strategy based on facts and then arrange to speak to the person you need to work things out with.

* Respond Thoughtfully – When you do respond, it’s imperative to think about what you will say. Stick to facts and let go of being overly emotional, although it’s okay to express the seriousness of the situation. The main thing is that you don’t want to attack; just state firmly your response.

* Speak Up –
It can be hard to speak up but when you start vocalizing what is wrong, you'll really know what’s bothering you in that relationship - whether it’s about the division of labor or something else entirely. You should feel free to speak up to people but also be willing to listen to them.

* Be Straightforward – It can be so tempting to behave in ways that do not improve relationships, such as being critical, speaking under your breath about something they did, or doing "it" back to them in a mean way. Don’t be passive-aggressive. Letting people know what you expect from them is very important to the relationship.

* Reclaim Your Time – If you realize you have toxic relationships, as you try to turn things around and stand up for yourself, you may have to gently let them go. You only have so many days on this earth and time goes by much faster than you even realize right now. Don’t waste it.

* Practice –
Don’t pass up opportunities to practice standing up for yourself. Whether it’s sending back the wilted salad at lunch, or letting your best friend know that they need to stop bothering you about their MLM business, you’ll get better at doing it firmly but kindly with practice.

You can stand up for yourself in a relationship and if you do, you’ll start having better ones than you ever thought possible. Being who you are and showing people how you want to be treated will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself. No one knows how to treat you but you, and if you don’t teach people what you expect, you’ll never get the respect you deserve.

Help each other example:

* Add Humor – No one is perfect, so if you can act with humor when mistakes are made (especially if they’re not catastrophic), it actually will build up the confidence of the person who made a mistake so that they can look at a way to not repeat their mistake. People who can laugh at themselves are also well-liked and sought-after leaders.

8 Tips for Standing Up for Yourself at Work

Standing Up for Yourself at Work

When you are working for someone else, it can feel impossible to stand up for yourself - but you can. Standing up for yourself at work is necessary to ensure that you have a well-balanced, happy life. The truth is, all workplaces should be healthy, collaborative, productive environments, but sadly, most of the time they aren’t. You can play a role in improving you're work-life by standing up for yourself at work.

* Speak Privately – If your issue is with a particular person, always arrange to speak with them privately and formally. Arrange to have a meeting and let them know what the meeting is about too. That way, you can both show up prepared and ready to tackle the issue in the time that you have available.

* Show Empathy – Even if you firmly believe the other person is at fault, it’s imperative to show empathy to their side of the issue. If you can speak to them in terms they understand, using words that let them know you understand them, it will go a lot more smoothly.

* Be Clear and Concise – Don’t mince words when you talk to the person. Be very clear and concise about the issues at hand. Say your piece and let them say theirs. Answer questions without being defensive and let them do the same.

* Use Professional Language – Anytime you have a meeting that is going to be slightly confrontational, it’s best to keep it professional and not use expletives during the conversation. Even if other people do it, it won’t help your cause to do it too.

* Offer a Solution to the Problem – Always give your solution to the problem, the best-case scenario of what you’d like to see happen. You will want to be willing to compromise to a point, but it will depend on the situation.

* Don’t Vent to Co-Workers – Never gossip or vent to co-workers about any issues you are having with anyone at work. It’s always going to get back to the person, and it will not solve any of the issues.

* Follow the Golden Rule – Treat other people with the same respect you wish to be treated with. This can be hard if they’re not doing it, but you must go out of your way to follow it even if others aren’t.

* Lead by Example – Dr. Phil once said on an old Oprah show that, "…[You] teach people how to treat you by your example." If this is the case, unless someone has expressed a preference, treat people how you’d like to be treated and they’ll return the same.

Creating a healthy, collaborative, and productive work environment is an important achievement for every person who must work. Whether you’re the boss or a worker doesn’t even matter; you can create the environment you want at work by standing up for yourself more often.

13 Tips to Save Money in Your Home by Being Green

Being green at home is actually very easy today. All you have to do is be committed to reusing, refurbishing, and recycling. When you do that, you tend to buy used instead of new and be careful about what you bring into your home.

money saving tips,saving money,how to save money,save money,saving money tips,money saving hacks,money,saving tips,ways to save money,how to save money fast,money saving tricks,budget tips,saving money hacks,tips on saving money,tips for saving money,money tips,minimalist saving money,save money fast,money saving,saving money and minimalism,financial tips,budgeting tips,minimalist money,money tricks

1. Only Buy Used Furniture – Don’t buy anything new unless it’s a necessity, and choose natural fibers over fake ones if you buy new. When you purchase used, though, you tend to find a higher quality real wood furniture for pennies on the dollar that you can refurbish to truly make your own.

2. Eat Less Meat – While going completely vegan (and only eating whole natural food) is probably the best option for both the environment and your health, just eating less meat will also help. Also, change to buying all your meat locally direct from farmers.

3. Don’t Buy Bottled Water – Bottled water is one of the worst environmental offenders. You can cut down on the bottled water by installing a filter. If you cannot do that, order the refillable bottles for your dispenser to at least cut down.

4. Use Glass Not Plastic – You don’t want to toss out your plastic unless you are worried about your health, but as you need to replace old containers, buy glass instead of plastic. The best containers are really the canning jars, as you can get them in all sizes with good lids to use for everything.

5. Replace Old Bulbs with LED Bulbs – As your bulbs burn out, replace them with a good quality LED bulb. Most of them last at least five years if not longer. Don’t be cheap and buy a generic bulb; stick to name brands with a guarantee as they can be pricy at first. Having said that, you won’t be replacing them as much and they use far less energy.

6. Use Canvas Bags Not Plastic – Don’t use plastic; take your own bags with you to the store so that you won’t be tempted. Reusing them every time you go to the store is easier if you put them back in your car after you’re finished putting it all away.

7. Use Cloth Not Paper – Instead of using paper towels and paper cleaning products, use cloth. You can find old rags at thrift stores to use. You can also cut up on t-shirts and cotton underwear and even use old socks.

8. Reduce Energy Usage – Insulate your home, put a brick in your toilet tank, and add faucet aerators to reduce flow. Buy energy-efficient appliances and unplug things when not in use. There is no reason to leave your TV on or plugged in when you leave the house.

9. Rent or Borrow, Don’t Buy – For something you need once a year or less, don’t buy it. Instead, rent it or borrow it from someone else. Most homeowners really do not need a pressure washer, for example. Renting one makes more sense in every way, including saving on manufacturing pollution.

10. Use Public Transportation – If it’s there, use it. The more people use public transportation, the more governments will want to add more options for them to use. Plus, it’s inexpensive and cuts down on pollution.

11. Embrace Renewable Energy Choices – Rainwater, wind power, solar, and other types of renewable energy are going to be needed by everyone eventually as fossil fuels will run out. If you start investing in renewable energy now, you’ll not only make money, but you’ll also help save the environment.

12. Compost – Turn your produce into compost on your own. A compost bucket is all you need, plus water and air. It’s easy to make your own fertile soil for use with all your plants. And if you don’t grow anything, local growers will be thankful for the donation.

13. Less Is More – One thing to remember about your home is that having fewer things in there is better for you and the environment than stuffing it to the brim with things.

When it comes to having fun, think about experiences over things. When you only buy things you really need and use every day, borrow or rent the rest, and focus on making a smaller carbon footprint, you’ll be a lot healthier, happier, and even a little bit richer - since everything mentioned also saves money.
